Conditions We Treat

At Balanced Mind Wellness Clinic, we treat several psychiatric disorders with telehealth counseling and medication management. We believe in holistic well-being, combining traditional mental health care methods with natural processes, like meditation, yoga, and breath work. Many mental illnesses co-occur, and our comprehensive evaluation will determine what you’re struggling with and how we can help.

Anxiety

Anxiety is a normal bodily reaction to stressful situations and events. It’s an evolutionary response that can prepare you for perceived threats by enhancing your ability to focus and prepare for them. Common triggers for anxiety are job interviews, first dates, or new experiences, like going away to college. After the stressful situation is over, anxiety should dissipate. When anxiety persists apart from a specific event, seeking anxiety treatment is the first step in regaining control of your life.

Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

ADHD affects both children and adults, and treatment options include medication, therapy, and accommodations at work or school. Many people experience some symptoms of this neurodevelopmental disorder on occasion, but for a diagnosis, they must occur consistently and cause noticeable challenges in daily life. ADHD is different for everyone, but the most prominent signs include: difficulty focusing and easily distracted, disorganization and frequently losing things, poor time management, and an inability to prioritize tasks.

Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar disorder is a mental illness characterized by drastic shifts in mood and energy levels. While there isn’t a cure for bipolar disorder, a combination of medication, psychotherapy, and lifestyle modifications will often reduce the severity of the symptoms. People with Bipolar I experience states of mania, during which they have very high energy, a reduced need for sleep, and grandiose ideas. Bipolar II causes hypomania, a less severe form of mania, and episodes of extreme depression that can last for weeks or months. A bipolar disorder diagnosis generally occurs in a person’s late teens to early 20s.

Depression

Although it may seem benign, clinical depression is medically significant and unlikely to resolve without treatment. Clinical depression makes it very difficult to bounce back or “get over” a negative experience. Depression causes noticeable changes in your appetite and sleep. Pervasive feelings of sadness and hopelessness often cause someone to lose interest in things they enjoy; severe depression can prevent you from completing activities of daily living, like cleaning your house or personal hygiene tasks. Fortunately, depression is highly treatable through therapy, medication, and a reliable support system.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

OCD is a cycle of unwanted thoughts, images, or urges that trigger the need to perform specific actions or rituals to reduce the anxiety from intrusive thoughts. A person with OCD may not realize that this pattern is disruptive to their life. Obsessions and compulsions monopolize a significant amount of time in your day, reduce your quality of life, and interrupt responsibilities, like getting to work on time.

Panic Attacks

Panic attacks cause intense fear and physical reactions, including sweating, shortness of breath, and a racing heart. They’re unpredictable and can happen anywhere without warning. Unlike anxiety attacks, panic attacks often have no apparent trigger and pass quickly. A combination of psychotherapy, exposure therapy, and medications can significantly reduce or eliminate panic attacks.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

PTSD can affect anyone, but is commonly an element of first responder and military mental health care. PTSD causes intrusive memories, nightmares, and avoidance of people, places, and activities that remind you of the traumatic situation. Difficulty experiencing positive emotions and feeling detached from people you care about are also prominent symptoms. Therapy can help you identify negative thoughts surrounding the trauma and modify them to develop healthy patterns.

Grief & Loss

Everyone experiences grief at some point. Some people can move through the grieving process independently, while others feel stuck in shock and sadness. Counseling offers a safe, confidential space to share feelings and learn coping mechanisms to ease grief. Grief counseling is also helpful in accepting your new reality and moving forward without abandoning the memories of what you lost.
